Mr. P.V. Juantoah has openly condemned statements made by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, who recently suggested that men should have at least ₵100,000 before getting married.
Speaking on Angel FM Kumasi, Mr. Juantoah described the directive as impractical and potentially harmful to church members.
“White weddings are not an African tradition; they belong to a culture that is also now promoting LGBTQ+ values. I disagree with him, and this approach will not help his members,” he said.
He urged church leaders to explore alternative ways to conduct weddings that are affordable and inclusive.
“He has to sit down with his elders and find a way a white wedding can be done with low cost so that as many people can participate. ₵100,000 as a benchmark is too much,” Mr. Juantoah emphasized.
Highlighting the value of simplicity in marriage, he shared his personal experience: “I wedded my wife with only four of my relatives present. What matters most is how the marriage will be sustained, not the extravagance of the ceremony.”
Mr. Juantoah warned that the ₵100,000 requirement could prevent men from marrying their soulmates, despite the potential long-term benefits of a strong union. He recommended that church guidance should rather focus on modesty and spending within one’s means, rather than imposing high financial thresholds.
“There is nothing wrong with mass weddings or modest celebrations. Advising members to marry within their means is far better than creating barriers that could delay or prevent unions,” he concluded.
