A fierce fire ripped through parts of Tema Community 1, Site 17, on Friday morning, destroying several commercial structures and prompting a swift, multi-station response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to GNFS officials, the emergency call was received at 9:43 a.m. Crews from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station were the first on the scene at 9:50 a.m., arriving to find flames racing through clustered wooden and metal structures used for business operations.

Recognising the scale of the incident, firefighters immediately requested reinforcement from the Motorway Fire Station. The combined team battled the blaze for nearly an hour, containing it at around 10:20 a.m. and finally extinguishing all hotspots by 11:40 a.m.

By the time the flames were put out, two wooden structures and three metal container shops had been completely consumed. Fire officers however succeeded in stopping the fire from spreading to a nearby home, marked as House No. IR 111.

Firefighters also managed to salvage several items from the burning structures, including 17 wooden sofas, a projector, a television set, two printers, three barrels containing petrol and diesel, and five vehicle batteries.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown as GNFS investigators begin their assessment.
