Ghana’s music fraternity is gearing up for a landmark weekend as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) rolls out activities to commemorate its 50th anniversary, a milestone celebrating five decades of artistry, advocacy, and cultural preservation.

As part of the celebrations, MUSIGA will convene its 3rd Biennial Conference from Friday, November 28, to Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Bethel Heights Hotel in Madina. Delegates from across the country are expected to deliberate on new policies and strategies aimed at repositioning the Union for modern industry demands.

The festivities will culminate in the Golden Jubilee Soiree, set for Saturday night at the Labadi Beach Hotel. The event will be held under the patronage of the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who is expected to lead a gathering of diplomats, industry leaders, creatives, and government officials.

The soiree will feature performances from some of Ghana’s most influential and beloved artistes, including highlife legends Pat Thomas, Smart Nkansah, vocalist Asabea, palm-wine highlife ensemble Kwanpa, and Grammy-nominated musician Rocky Dawuni.

Held under the theme “Driving Innovation and Sustainable Growth in the Music Industry,” this year’s conference reflects MUSIGA’s renewed commitment to strengthening the music ecosystem through creativity, technology, and stronger institutional support.

MUSIGA President Bess Simons described the 50-year journey as a “rare and meaningful landmark,” acknowledging the vision of the Union’s founding members and reaffirming today’s leadership’s resolve to uphold musicians’ welfare and push Ghanaian music to greater global heights.

Founded in 1975, MUSIGA has served as the collective voice for musicians, advocating for rights, improving working conditions, and promoting Ghanaian sounds across continents. Over the years, the Union has contributed significantly to the growth of multiple music genres, talent development, and cultural promotion.

The Golden Jubilee Soiree will also honour individuals and organisations whose work has shaped Ghana’s music scene, highlighting the collaborative spirit needed to sustain the industry’s future.

The celebration is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority, Telecel, Stanbic Bank, Club Beer, Quick Angels Ltd, Tag Transport Agency, and Showbiz Africa.
