The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has relaunched an incursion into the troubled Offin Shelterbelt Forest Reserve, dismantling several illegal mining camps operating within the protected area.
During the latest raid on Saturday, the task force focused on the Ataso section of the reserve, where two excavators, multiple pumping machines, and other mining equipment were seized and destroyed.
According to NAIMOS officials, the renewed operation forms part of ongoing efforts to restore the integrity of Ghana’s forest reserves and water bodies severely affected by illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
Despite the swift and coordinated action, the illegal miners reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the task force, evading arrest.
Authorities say monitoring and follow-up operations will continue to prevent a resurgence of the miners in the area.
NAIMOS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources, stressing that the fight against galamsey will remain relentless and uncompromising.
