The government’s anti-galamsey task force has made another major breakthrough in its renewed crackdown on illegal mining, this time in the Ahafo Region.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), during a coordinated operation at Bronikrom–Hwediem, dismantled an active galamsey site and arrested multiple operators, among them a Burkinabe national.

Confirming the raid in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the swoop was part of ongoing nationwide efforts to stamp out illegal mining and restore degraded lands.

He revealed that the site was located alarmingly close to the Hwediem–Goaso Highway, just about ten metres away, underscoring the impunity with which the illegal miners were operating.

“NAIMOS continues to strike at the heart of illegal mining. This time, they flushed out operators at Bronikrom–Hwediem in the Ahafo Region and arrested several individuals, including a Burkinabe,”
the Minister wrote.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu assured that government remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantle illegal mining networks, safeguard water bodies, and protect livelihoods in affected communities.

He also commended the security personnel involved in the exercise, noting that the arrests serve as a warning to others engaged in similar unlawful activities.

“Our resolve to end galamsey is firm. We will pursue offenders wherever they operate and ensure Ghana’s natural wealth is preserved for future generations,”
he added.
