Minister of Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has hailed the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings for her pioneering role in creating opportunities for women to assume leadership positions across Ghana.

Speaking during the final funeral rites, Minister Gomashie highlighted the former First Lady’s courage and unwavering commitment to advocating for women, which she said reshaped societal expectations of female leadership in the country.

“Because she dared to challenge the norms, women today can aim higher, not only as First Ladies but in every sphere where they seek to make a difference,” she noted.

She emphasized that the advancements women enjoy today in governance and national decision-making are the result of deliberate efforts by trailblazers like Nana Konadu, whose advocacy “changed the narrative long before it became popular.”

Citing recent government appointments and the growing presence of women in decision-making roles, Gomashie said these achievements demonstrate the progress made over the years.

“Looking at the appointments under President John Dramani Mahama, it is clear that Ghana has made significant strides. This progress stands on the foundation laid by Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. Women, girls, and empowerment must remain central to our national agenda,” she added.

Reflecting personally, Minister Gomashie admitted she regretted not staying closer to the former First Lady, recalling the guidance and opportunities Nana Konadu provided that shaped her early creative career.

She called on all Ghanaians, particularly those in leadership, to draw inspiration from Nana Konadu’s impactful life and continue her legacy of empowering women.
