Ten Nigerian nationals have been arrested by the Ghana Navy for allegedly attempting to stow away on a Panamanian-registered cargo ship, MV Grand Venus, at the Tema Port.

According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), naval officers intercepted the suspects on Friday, October 31, 2025, after responding to a distress signal from the ship’s crew.

Investigations suggest the group secretly boarded the vessel while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria before it sailed toward Ghanaian waters.

“The Ghana Navy, on Friday, 31st October 2025, arrested ten stowaways aboard the Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel Grand Venus in Tema following a distress call,” the GAF statement noted.

The Navy team escorted the vessel to the Tema Harbour, where the suspects were handed over to officials from the Ghana Immigration Service, Port Control, and the Marine Police Unit for further questioning.

The Ghana Armed Forces reaffirmed its determination to protect the country’s maritime borders and ensure safety across its territorial waters, adding that more information will be released as investigations progress.
