
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has emerged victorious in the Akwatia parliamentary by-election, with their candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, securing 18,177 votes, representing 54.1% of the total valid ballots cast. His closest rival, Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 15,249 votes, accounting for 45.3% of the total valid votes.

– Rejected Ballots: 274
– Independent Candidate: Owusu Patrick secured 173 votes, making up 0.5% of the total valid votes
Bernard Bediako Baidoo declared himself the winner ahead of the Electoral Commission’s official declaration, expressing confidence in his victory based on direct engagement with voters. The NDC’s director for elections, Rashid Tanko, also congratulated Bernard Bediako Baidoo on his win.
The Akwatia parliamentary by-election was necessitated by the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the sitting NPP MP, who passed away on July 7, 2025. The NDC’s victory marks a significant shift in the parliamentary representation of the constituency, with Bernard Bediako Baidoo set to take on the role of MP for Akwatia.
