An Accra court has remanded nine persons into police custody for allegedly attacking a sub-chief of Weija with dangerous weapons, including a cutlass, an axe, and a pair of scissors.
The accused include Bernard Tagoe, also known as Asa Sese, a 31-year-old unemployed man; Eric Nii Martey, a 28-year-old mechanic apprentice; and Michael Lokko, among others.
Prosecutors told the court that the group allegedly ambushed the Weija sub-chief during a dispute and inflicted injuries with the weapons in their possession. The police presented the seized items as evidence.
The presiding judge ruled that the accused be kept in custody to allow further investigations into the matter. The case has been adjourned to a later date.
The incident has stirred unease in the Weija community, with residents expressing concern about rising tensions linked to traditional leadership disputes. Community leaders have appealed for calm while urging security agencies to maintain order.
