President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to provide full government support to transform Papao Farms into a centre of excellence for agricultural production, training, and research. During a visit to the poultry farm in Accra, he commended the dedication of National Service personnel and volunteers working on the project, assuring them of his administration’s continued backing.
Key Features of the Transformation
– Centre of Excellence: The farm will serve as a model for agricultural production, training, and research, not only for Ghana but also for the West African sub-region.
– Government Support: President Mahama has promised full government support for the development of the farm, including the provision of:
– Poultry Processing Plants: to boost production and processing capacity
– Hostels: to accommodate personnel and facilitate training
– Vehicles: to enhance transportation and logistics
– Solar Power Plants: to ensure a reliable energy supply
The President also announced the imminent launch of the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti project, a nationwide poultry initiative designed to:
– Boost Local Production: increase chicken production and reduce reliance on imports
– Create Jobs: provide employment opportunities for young people in the poultry sector
– Improve Food Security: make poultry products more accessible and affordable for Ghanaians
The project will have three layers:
– Large-Scale Producers: will receive 4 million day-old chicks
– Medium-Scale Producers: will receive 3 million day-old chicks
– Household Producers: will receive day-old chicks, feed, and veterinary care
The government will also establish processing plants in different parts of the country to process and package chicken products under the Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti brand. The project aims to make Ghana nearly self-sufficient in poultry production within three years.
