Teenage girls in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have commended the government for providing free sanitary pads to support menstrual hygiene among students.

The initiative, they said, will help end the use of unsafe alternatives like rags and cotton, which many girls previously relied on due to high costs or limited access to sanitary products.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Antwi Awal, said the support was crucial, especially as ongoing conflicts in the area have made it difficult for many parents to afford sanitary items.

He urged the girls to stay focused on their education and personal growth, advising them to avoid distractions that could hinder their progress.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, noting that the initiative will boost their confidence and reduce absenteeism during menstruation.

They described the support as a relief that promotes both hygiene and equal educational opportunities for girls.
