Former Member of Parliament for Offinso South, Hon. Ben Abdula Banda, has strongly criticised Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng over comments suggesting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is “fake,” urging him to stop airing internal party grievances in public.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, Hon. Banda questioned the timing and approach of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks, arguing that such concerns should have been addressed internally rather than through the media.
“Did Prof. Frimpong-Boateng not see that the party was fake when he was given a four-year position under NPP governance? He did not speak about it then,” Banda stated.
According to the former legislator, it was inappropriate for Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to wait until the party had exited government before raising such serious allegations.
“The government had to leave office before he suddenly realised that the party was fake,” he added.
Hon. Banda acknowledged Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s stature, describing him as an elder statesman, a prominent party figure, and a respected medical professional. However, he stressed that such standing comes with responsibility.
“He is an old man, prominent in Ghana and in the party, and a very good medical doctor. If he had seen something wrong in the party and the leadership had not yet approached him, he also had the responsibility to approach the leadership so the issues could be deliberated,” he said.
He described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s decision to speak publicly about internal party issues as misguided.
“His move to rather go to the media was wrong and not the best approach,” Banda insisted.
While admitting that the NPP faces internal challenges, the former MP emphasized that party members are actively working together to address them.
“I admit the party has challenges, but we are working collectively to resolve them. We do not need to wash our dirty linen in public,” he noted.
Hon. Banda concluded by calling for respect and unity within the party, urging Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to use appropriate internal channels to resolve any grievances.
“We respect him, and we want him to use the right channels to address any misunderstanding or grievances he may have,” he said.
