New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Team member, George Opoku Amponsah, has launched a scathing critique of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing it as “one of the most useless institutions” created under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Opoku Amponsah argued that the institution, which was established to fight corruption, has not delivered any meaningful results since its inception.

“I am not the kind of politician who is blinded by excessive partisanship to defend lies,” he said. “The Office of the Special Prosecutor has brought nothing meaningful to Ghana. The NPP allowed President Nana Addo to create it, but it has been of no benefit.”

The NPP communicator criticised both the former and current occupants of the office. Regarding the first Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, he stated: “All he came to do was long talks and big English, which brought no value to the people of Ghana. He had the opportunity but achieved nothing.”

Turning to the current Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, Opoku Amponsah expressed disappointment, saying expectations were high due to his youth and perceived energy. “We thought because he was young, he would come and do something different, but he came and turned into a musician,” he said, referencing the public engagements and commentary that have accompanied Agyebeng’s tenure.

He insisted that Kissi Agyebeng should be removed from office. “He should be sacked as soon as possible so the NDC can do whatever they want to do,” he noted.

Opoku Amponsah added that, while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) may seek reforms at the OSP, they must understand that Ghanaians are more concerned about the overall wellbeing of the nation. “It is the goodwill of the country that Ghanaians are talking about. Whether the NDC will use common sense to make things right is up to them,” he said.

He emphasised that if the NDC proceeds to remove the Special Prosecutor, he would not accuse the party of acting politically. “If he is sacked, I will never go anywhere and accuse the NDC of being political,” he stated.
