Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the FomenaConstituency, Kwasi Anti Asamoah, has called on the party leadership to appeal to Odeneho Kwaku Appiah to return and lead the party as Ashanti Regional Chairman, citing the current state of the party in the region.
Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, Kwasi Anti Asamoah said the NPP in the Ashanti Region is struggling organisationally and needs experienced, unifying leadership to restore its strength and credibility.
According to him, the outgoing regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), has failed to leave a solid legacy for the party in the region. However, he stressed that despite disagreements, he would not speak ill of him.
“Even if we do not support Chairman Wontumi, we will not insult him,” he said. “But he should not spoil the name of Dr. Bawumia, because he is not the one who will elect him; it is the delegates.”
Kwasi Anti Asamoah lamented the poor state of party organisation in the region, revealing that the NPP does not even have a functional regional party office.
“We don’t even have a party office. We stand by cars to organise meetings,” he stated, adding that the region urgently needs a leader who can mobilise resources and lobby for proper infrastructure.
He argued that Odeneho Kwaku Appiah is best suited to lead the party through this difficult period, insisting that the party should not even contest him, but rather plead with him to accept the position.
“We should not even vote. The party should beg OdenehoKwaku Appiah to come and lead us because he is the one who can bring transformation,” he said.
Kwasi Anti Asamoah described Odeneho Kwaku Appiah as a wise and principled party man, praising his conduct during the recent NPP primaries. According to him, Odeneho refrained from openly supporting any aspirant, a quality he believes defines true party leadership.
“A proper party leader must not support anyone during primaries,” he added.
He concluded that restoring unity, discipline, and effective leadership in the Ashanti Region is critical to the NPP’s future electoral success.
