Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has described Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III as “a disgrace to chieftaincy” following remarks the chief reportedly made about him and his supporters.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Ing. Agyapong said the chief showed a lack of respect for both himself and the institution of chieftaincy. “He does not have respect for himself and his throne,” he stated.
Ing. Agyapong, who holds a degree in civil engineering and a postgraduate qualification completed abroad with distinction, highlighted his professional and public service credentials, noting that he had worked on major projects delivered on time and within budget and had served as secretary to a president without engaging in any corrupt acts.
Despite his record, he said, the chief referred to him and his supporters as useless ”sankwas.” “I am not useless. If he does not respect himself, we do. He may have his disagreements, but a chief does not say that,” Ing. Agyapong said, adding that such remarks render the chief undeserving of his seat.
He further criticised the chief’s previous comments about former President Nana Akufo-Addo, arguing that while disagreement with political leaders is acceptable, certain words and expressions are unbecoming of a traditional ruler. “You can disagree with the president, but you need not speak certain words,” he said.
