According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Agona Nsaba, firefighters received a distress call at 11:34 a.m. and arrived to find one of the eight rooms in the compound fully engulfed in flames.
Despite residents’ desperate attempts to contain the blaze before the arrival of the fire crew, the inferno had already consumed one room and its contents. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control and prevent the flames from spreading to the remaining seven rooms.
Unfortunately, one individual perished in the incident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
The GNFS has commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials say preliminary findings will be made public once inquiries are complete.
In a statement, the Fire Service commended residents for their quick alert but urged greater caution in handling fire-related activities, stressing that early reporting and safety vigilance remain the most effective ways to prevent loss of life and property.
“This incident is a painful reminder that fire safety is everyone’s responsibility,” the statement noted. “We encourage all households to ensure they have working fire extinguishers and report any outbreak immediately.”
The tragedy has cast a sombre mood over the Agona Mankrong community, as neighbours mourn the loss and await answers from fire investigators.
