The one-week memorial for legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba was held on August 30, 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra. Thousands of music enthusiasts, politicians, and fellow musicians gathered to celebrate his life and legacy. Some notable attendees included:
– Former Presidents: Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
– Musicians: Sarkodie, Amakye Dede, Pat Thomas, Oheneba Kissi, Kofi Nti, and Kay Bless
– Politicians: Kennedy Agyapong, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Frema Opare
The event featured performances of Daddy Lumba’s iconic songs, including “Theresa,” “Aben Wo Ha,” and “Ohia Asem”. Former President Akufo-Addo praised Daddy Lumba as “a pantheon among musical greats” and donated GHC 100,000 to support the final funeral rites, which will take place in Kumasi.
