Oheneba Akyaa Panin III of Apatrapa has been officially destooled by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, bringing her 24-year reign to an end.
The destoolment, which took place on Monday, January 12, 2026, followed the outcome of investigations that found she had falsely laid claim to the Bosompra Kumaa Stool. The claim was subjected to a thorough traditional inquiry and was subsequently established to be untrue.
Further findings also revealed that Oheneba Akyaa Panin III is not a royal member of the Apatrapa Stool lineage, a requirement under custom for occupying the position. This discovery effectively disqualified her from holding the stool.
Based on these determinations, the appropriate traditional authorities proceeded to carry out her destoolment in line with Asante customs and traditions.
The decision underscores the Asante Traditional Council’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of chieftaincy institutions and ensuring that only qualified royal persons occupy stools within the Asante Kingdom.
