More than 260 women in Kenyasi have benefitted from free breast cancer screening through a joint initiative by the Cancer Support Network Foundation, the Asutifi North District Hospital, and the Queen Mother of Kenyasi No. 1, Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Mrosa.
The outreach, part of this year’s breast cancer awareness campaign, aimed to promote early detection and educate women on preventive healthcare.
Eric Brobbey, Vice President of the Foundation, told Adom News that initial examinations revealed approximately 60 women may require further medical evaluation to determine possible cancer development and enable timely treatment. He added that the Foundation is prepared to provide financial assistance to any woman diagnosed with the disease, continuing its support for patients in the region from previous years.
“The turnout this year has been remarkable compared to previous years. It shows that people are beginning to understand the importance of taking breast cancer screening seriously,” Mr. Brobbey said.
Board Secretary Dr. Gabriel Asumeng, alongside Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Mrosa, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting women battling breast cancer and encouraged regular medical checkups.
“Early detection remains the most effective tool in fighting the disease. A breast cancer diagnosis is not the end, there is help, support, and hope,” Dr. Asumeng said.
The screening exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Cancer Support Network Foundation to raise awareness and improve access to breast cancer screening and treatment across Ghana.
