Documents circulating online have alleged that companies purportedly linked to Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, were awarded multiple contracts by Ghana’s Ministry of Energy between 2017 and 2022, amounting to more than GH¢751 million.
The alleged document, titled “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong’s Energy Ministry Contracts,” lists 20 separate contracts awarded to various companies for the supply of electrical materials, streetlights, conductors, and steel poles. The total contract value is estimated at GH¢751,380,958.00.
According to the purported list, the largest single contract, worth GH¢100,260,000.00, was awarded in 2017 to Imperial World Ventures for the supply of 150W LED streetlights complete with arms, bolts, nuts, and washers. Other companies mentioned include Bay City Energy Limited, Mina D’Oro Ventures, Caktis Limited, Hybis Magnolia Ltd, and Taca Wazu Ltd, with contracts spanning from 2017 through 2022.
Between 2018 and 2020, several additional contracts, mainly for the supply of conductors, pole top accessories, and electrical materials, were also allegedly approved, with significant sums ranging between GH¢20 million and GH¢70 million per deal.
In 2022, the alleged document shows three separate streetlight supply contracts awarded to Hybis Magnolia Ltd, BaycityEnergy Ltd, and Coachella Ltd, each valued at approximately GH¢19 million.
While the authenticity of the document has not been officially confirmed, it has triggered public interest and renewed debate about contract allocations and potential conflicts of interest involving public officials.
As of now, neither Hon. Kennedy Agyapong nor the Ministry of Energy has publicly commented on the alleged contracts.
Observers have called for transparency and due diligence to ascertain the veracity of the claims and to ensure that all government procurement processes remain fair and accountable.
