The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), working in partnership with the Auditor-General’s office, has announced the recovery of more than GH¢12.9 billion in misused public funds.

The disclosure follows weeks of sittings with officials from ministries, departments, and agencies to address financial irregularities cited in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report.

PAC Chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, confirmed the milestone during Wednesday’s session, attributing it to strong collaboration with the Auditor-General.

“One thing I am clear about is that what we are doing is yielding positive results. With the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a report on this, which we will share with the public at the appropriate time,” she said.

The Committee is expected to reconvene on October 27, 2025. Meanwhile, the recovery has sparked public reactions, with many citizens welcoming the development and calling for stiffer sanctions, including jail terms, for those implicated.

Observers argue that stricter enforcement would serve as a deterrent, ensuring that public resources are used responsibly and not diverted for personal gain.
