Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has alleged that some parents are paying as much as GHS 20,000 to secure placement for their children into senior high schools across the country.
Speaking during an interview on the ongoing school placement challenges, the veteran legislator expressed deep concern over what he described as a “disturbing level of corruption” in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
According to him, certain officials and middlemen are exploiting the system by demanding large sums of money from desperate parents who wish to get their children into preferred schools.
“Some parents are paying up to twenty thousand cedis just to get placement. This is unacceptable and must be investigated,” Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated.
He called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to urgently probe the alleged irregularities and ensure that the placement process is transparent, fair, and based solely on merit.
The revelations come at a time when the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a review of the CSSPS, describing it as “unfair” to many students and parents.
The issue has reignited public debate on fairness and accountability within Ghana’s educational system, particularly regarding access to quality secondary education.
