POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ATTACK, KILLING OF IMMIGRATION OFFICER AT GBINTRI CHECKPOINT

The North East Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers at the Gbintri Inland checkpoint, which left one dead and another injured.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the officers. Both sustained gunshot wounds, but one officer later died while the other is receiving treatment at a health facility.

According to a police statement signed by DSP Robert Anabik Anmain, Public Affairs Officer for the region, the attackers fled with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. Police, however, recovered a service rifle that had been in use at the checkpoint during the assault.

The Command has described the incident as a “heinous crime” and assured the public that a manhunt is underway to arrest the perpetrators.

Police have appealed to the public to provide any relevant information that could aid ongoing investigations.
