Police in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have arrested eight teenage girls for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing more than GH¢20,000 and other valuables.
The suspects, aged between 13 and 17, are all students from various schools in the municipality. They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to police reports, the girls admitted to being part of a gang that monitored the victim’s movements and struck whenever he was away from home during school breaks.
One of the suspects, who is said to be on the run with her parents, allegedly received GH¢2,000 as her share of the stolen money.
The identity of the victim remains unknown, but residents say he has suffered a series of similar robberies in recent months, a situation that has left neighbours on high alert.
Police are appealing to the public for information that could help arrest the remaining suspect and aid ongoing investigations.
