The farming community of Yawusukrom in Dormaa West, Bono Region, is reeling after the tragic discovery of a pregnant woman’s body on her family farm on Thursday evening, 6 November 2025.

The victim, Madam Akua Haiga, aged about 33 and seven months pregnant, had gone to her newly cultivated farm earlier in the day to harvest okra but never returned home. Alarmed by her absence, her husband, Elder Kumbur Bright, Treasurer of the NDC in the Dormaa West Constituency, alerted family members.

“She said she was going to pick okra from the farm, but by 6 p.m., she still hadn’t returned,” said Martin Yrrisah, her brother-in-law. “When we went to the farm, we found her lying lifeless. It was a sight none of us can forget.”

The family immediately reported the incident to the Nkrankwanta Police, who transported the body for further examination and autopsy. Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The shocking incident has left the community in mourning and fear, with residents describing the act as senseless and cruel.

“This is pure wickedness,” a community elder said tearfully. “Akua Haiga was a gentle, hardworking woman who never quarreled with anyone. Whoever did this must be found and punished.”

The Nkrankwanta Police Command has assured the public that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
