President John Mahama has unveiled a new initiative that will see senior high schools across Ghana setting up their own poultry and livestock farms. The policy aims to help schools produce meat internally rather than relying on external suppliers.

The announcement was made during the 65th anniversary celebrations of Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco), the alma mater of both President Mahama and his wife, Lordina.

“We are introducing a policy to ensure that secondary schools have both poultry and livestock farms. Ghanasco will be among the first to implement this,” President Mahama stated.

He emphasized the practical benefits for students, saying, “With these farms, you will get your meat directly from the school. There will be no reason for the dining hall to run out of meat, and students will enjoy fresh produce every day.”

Beyond improving food supply, the initiative is designed to provide students with practical agricultural training, fostering self-sufficiency while promoting hands-on learning experiences. Schools implementing the program are expected to benefit from a sustainable source of fresh meat for campus meals.
