National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has clarified that no immediate decision has been taken to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from the party, stressing that due process will be strictly followed.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV, Mr. Blay explained that Professor Frimpong-Boateng will first appear before the party’s disciplinary committee, which will examine the issues arising from his recent comments before any further action is considered.
According to him, once a formal complaint or letter reaches the National Council of the party, it is forwarded to the disciplinary committee for review. After deliberations, the committee’s recommendations are then submitted to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for a final decision.
“If the letter gets to the National Council, it will be referred to the disciplinary committee. Based on their findings and recommendations, it will then be taken to the NEC,” Mr. Blay explained.
He noted that at this stage, it would be premature to conclude whether Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks warrant expulsion, as that determination can only be made after the appropriate committees have completed their work.
“I cannot say now whether what he said deserves expulsion. We have to wait for the committee’s deliberations, debates and conclusions,” he stated.
Mr. Blay emphasised that the NPP, as a national political party, places a high premium on discipline and internal order, regardless of the status or stature of the individual involved.
“The NPP is a national party, and discipline must be enforced, even if it involves a professor,” he said. “If someone makes statements that are offensive or damaging to the party, it becomes necessary to impose discipline.”
He added that should the disciplinary process conclude that expulsion is necessary, the party will not hesitate to take that step.
“If it becomes necessary to expel him, we will do so. Nobody is above the law,” Mr. Blay stressed.
The NPP Chairman concluded that enforcing discipline within the party is essential, not only for internal cohesion but also as a demonstration of the values required to govern the country effectively.
“Maintaining discipline is the best way to run an organisation and ultimately to lead this country,” he said.
