A public spat between two senior University of Ghana academics has escalated into a legal showdown following a fiery television exchange.
Professor Ransford Gyampo, Political Science Professor at UG and Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has formally demanded a retraction and apology from Dr. George Domfeh over what he calls a defamatory allegation.
The controversy erupted during TV3’s The Key Point on Saturday, November 15, when an intense policy debate reportedly spiraled into personal accusations. According to Professor Gyampo’s lawyers at Darko, Keli-Delataa & Company, Dr. Domfeh allegedly claimed that Gyampo “sleeps with under-age girls”, a statement the legal team says was widely understood as labeling Gyampo a paedophile.
In a letter dated November 16, 2025, Dr. Domfeh was ordered to publicly retract the statement and issue an apology within 24 hours on a platform of comparable prominence. The lawyers described the allegation as “reckless, malicious, and patently false,” warning that any failure to comply would result in immediate legal action.
“The claim is entirely baseless and attacks the public image of Professor Gyampo, a respected academic and national thought leader,” the letter stated, highlighting the potential damage to his reputation caused by the televised remarks.
This legal confrontation comes in the wake of what has become one of the most talked-about academic disputes in recent UG history, following a weekend TV appearance that quickly drew nationwide attention.
