Ghanaian activist Ralf De Fellow Ghanaian has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Miracle Aboagye over a press conference held earlier today in Kwanyako addressing illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Speaking to the media, Ralf De described the event as hypocritical, noting that the issue of polluted water in the area began long ago, even during the NPP’s tenure, when authorities reportedly failed to take meaningful action. “They claimed it was the source of living for some Ghanaians, yet now they come out to hold a press conference,” he said.
He further called on President John Mahama to implement strict measures to curb illegal mining activities and protect Ghana’s rivers and communities from environmental degradation. “The government must enforce strong action to stop this menace,” he added.
The Kwanyako press conference, organised by the NPP, aimed to highlight the impact of galamsey on water bodies in the Central Region. However, critics like Ralf De insist that past inaction undermines the credibility of such interventions.
