The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and Senior Campaign Advisor to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Lawyer Sammi Awuku, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party’s loss in the 2024 general elections may have spared Dr. Bawumia from making certain appointments he might later have regretted.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Awuku explained that the internal dynamics and experiences from the campaign period exposed the true loyalties of some individuals within the party.
“If Dr. Bawumia had won the election, maybe he would have made some appointments that he might have regretted based on some of the dynamics of this campaign,” he stated.
According to him, several people who were assumed to be loyal to the Bawumia project proved otherwise through their actions during the campaign.
“People we would have thought would be loyal have proven over time that they are not,” Awuku noted.
He admitted that Dr. Bawumia felt a sense of betrayal due to the conduct of some party members but has since come to terms with the realities of politics.
“Dr. Bawumia feels betrayed in a way by some of the actions of some people, but he has come to accept that this is how politics is,” he said.
Awuku further argued that a straight transition from the 2024 elections into governance could have led to strategic mistakes, particularly in appointments that might have negatively affected the administration.
“If we had continued straight from 2024, we would have made wrong appointments which could have affected us,” he added.
Despite the setback, Awuku expressed optimism about the future, maintaining strong belief in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership potential.
“We are hopeful that in 2028, Dr. Bawumia will be the President of the Republic, and he will make a great president,” he concluded.
