The National Sports Authority (NSA) has issued a directive prohibiting award-winning rapper Sarkodie from using the pitch of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for his annual ‘Rapperholic’ concert.

The Director General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, explained that while the stadium can host the event, the pitch itself cannot be used due to its ongoing renovations to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA standards.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah stressed that the playing surface remains a top priority and must be preserved.

“Sarkodie is prohibited from using the pitch to host the Rapperholic event. There are no pitch covers, so we have to put measures in place to ensure that the pitch is safe. The pitch is important to us, and there is no way the event will be hosted on it,” he said.

He further warned that sanctions could be applied if the directive was violated, although the Authority was more interested in protecting the pitch than pursuing fines.

Concerns had been raised earlier about the possibility of damage to the playing surface if it were used for the show. The NSA has therefore clarified that only designated areas within the stadium may be used for the concert.

Sarkodie, on his part, has assured fans and stakeholders that he will comply fully with the NSA’s directives. He also promised an electrifying concert this weekend, noting that the restrictions would not affect the quality of the experience.
