The Sekyere Afram Plains District has partnered with World Vision Ghana to launch a new Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiative aimed at improving health outcomes and building resilient communities.

Dubbed WASH for Improved Health, the project focuses on promoting health, education, water, sanitation, and hygiene advocacy across the district. It is part of a wider vision to ensure that children in the area are loved, protected, healthy, educated, and empowered to thrive within inclusive and resilient communities.

At the launch, Robel Wamisho, Program Associate Director at World Vision Ghana, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to transforming communities by addressing sanitation and water challenges, promoting proper hygiene practices, and supporting vulnerable children.

He emphasized that the initiative’s success will depend on strong collaboration with the Sekyere Afram Plains District Assembly, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, and other key stakeholders.

Ivan Aboagye, Regional Operations Manager for World Vision Ghana, described Sekyere Afram Plains as one of the largest yet most underserved districts in the Ashanti Region, facing major deficits in sanitation and access to clean water. “Data from the district show that inadequate sanitation facilities and limited access to potable water continue to hinder development,” he said.

Mr. Aboagye explained that the WASH initiative will prioritize vulnerable communities with limited access to clean water and poor hygiene practices. He added that reducing open defecation and improving sanitation remain central objectives of the project.
