Prominent civil advocate and Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, says his belief in Ghana’s political system has waned so deeply that he could not bring himself to vote in the 2020 elections.

Mr. Hosi, who also serves as a Trustee of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, revealed that he voted for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2016 with high hopes that his government would tackle corruption and restore public trust.

However, by 2020, that optimism had faded.

“Nana Addo, who we thought was coming to deal with everything, and I voted for him in 2016. In 2020, I couldn’t vote anymore. I couldn’t vote for anybody,” he disclosed during an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 11.

According to Hosi, both major political parties, the NPP and the NDC, have failed to live up to their promises, leaving citizens disenchanted with Ghana’s democratic process.

“Both parties must understand that Ghanaians are losing confidence in democracy itself, largely because of the predominance of corruption,” he said.

He lamented how every government enters office accusing its predecessor of corruption, only to leave behind similar scandals.

“Almost everybody comes into office with strong accusations of corruption against the previous government, and then that same government leaves office with worse allegations. Are we going or are we coming?” he questioned.

Mr. Hosi added that Ghanaians expect former President John Mahama, who is seeking re-election, to go beyond promises and take concrete steps against graft if he returns to power.

“Now we have John Mahama coming back again with strong oral promises. We will definitely be disappointed if we don’t see real action,” he warned.

Mr. Hosi’s remarks reflect a growing wave of public frustration over corruption and political apathy as Ghana approaches another election year.
