Parliament Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has rejected claims that the executive branch controls his actions or Parliament’s operations.

The remarks came during Thursday’s debate on the Appointments Committee report for Chief Justice nominee Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, in response to allegations by Asante-Akim Central MP Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi. The MP had suggested that the executive was exerting undue influence over the legislature and judiciary, citing the Minority’s walkout during the vetting as evidence.

Addressing the claims, Speaker Bagbin stated firmly: “As I sit here, there’s no executive that can control me,” reaffirming Parliament’s independence and adherence to constitutional boundaries.
