Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Dung Mahama, has made a significant contribution toward the establishment of a teacher training college in his constituency by donating a 13-bedroom apartment and constructing a six-unit classroom block to support accreditation requirements.
According to the Talensi Constituency Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Nangena, the MP’s initiative is aimed at accelerating the accreditation process to make the college operational.
“He went out of his own way; he even built a six-classroom block in record time, just so we can meet the assessment requirements for the start of the college,” Mr. Nangena said in an interview with Asaase News.
He disclosed that in addition to the infrastructure, a pickup vehicle has been provided to facilitate the institution’s operations once the college begins full activities.
“A pickup vehicle has been added to support the institution’s operations,” Mr. Nangena added.
Mr. Nangena further highlighted that Hon. Mahama’s education-focused interventions go beyond the teacher training college project. Through personal lobbying efforts with government agencies, the MP has secured more than 15 scholarships for students from the constituency in less than a year — a move he described as “very unprecedented” for a first-term legislator.
The MP has also rolled out assistance programmes expected to benefit over 250 students, underscoring his commitment to improving access to education in Talensi.
“The MP has shown real commitment to human capital development in Talensi. His focus is not just on infrastructure, but also on creating opportunities for young people,” Mr. Nangena emphasized.
The development has been widely welcomed by constituents, who see it as a major step toward improving teacher education and addressing the shortage of trained teachers in the area.
