A fatal road accident on the Tatale-Sanguli road in the Northern Region has left three people dead and several others injured, deepening concerns about road safety on rural highways.

The victims were aboard a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 5828-17, reportedly returning from the Kukpalgu market when the crash occurred late Saturday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses say the driver was momentarily blinded by the dazzling headlights of an oncoming articulated truck. In a desperate attempt to avoid a head-on collision, he swerved off the road, only to slam into a stationary tricycle (motor king) that had broken down by the roadside.

The impact of the collision was severe, killing three passengers instantly and leaving several others with serious injuries. The wounded were quickly transported to a nearby health facility for emergency treatment.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tatale-Sanguli, Mary Tagba, and the area’s Member of Parliament, William Ayo Ntebe, have visited the bereaved families to express their condolences. They pledged continued support to those affected and urged the community to remain united during the difficult period.

“This is a painful loss for our district,” Madam Tagba said. “We must all work together to prevent such tragedies in the future.”

Authorities have launched an investigation to establish the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary information points to poor lighting conditions and negligent parking of broken-down vehicles, two recurring hazards on many of Ghana’s rural roads.

Residents have appealed for improved road markings, reflectors, and enforcement of safety regulations, noting that the Tatale-Sanguli stretch becomes particularly dangerous at night.

As investigations continue, the latest tragedy adds to Ghana’s growing list of preventable road accidents, renewing calls for greater accountability, driver discipline, and better road infrastructure across the country.
