Three individuals captured in a widely circulated video involving a brutal domestic assault have been remanded into police custody, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
In a statement released by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday, authorities said the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has formally arraigned the main suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, popularly known as Nii Adjei, before the court. He faces a charge of physical assault under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), after the disturbing footage showed him violently attacking a woman believed to be his wife.
Two other individuals, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, have also been charged. According to the police, the pair allegedly attempted to confront a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the video online. They are now facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and threat of harm.
All three suspects were denied bail and will remain in custody until their next court appearance scheduled for December 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Police Service has issued a public appeal for information on the victim, whose identity and current location remain unknown. Authorities urged her, or anyone with credible details about her whereabouts, to report to the nearest police station, assuring the public that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The viral video has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for swift justice and stronger protections for victims of domestic abuse.
