The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has inaugurated new governing boards for the Ghana National Procurement Agency (GNPA) and the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC), charging them to uphold efficiency, transparency, and accountability in advancing Ghana’s industrial and trade agenda.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra last Thursday, Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare said the GNPA was expected to play a pivotal role in driving industrialisation through sound procurement practices that support local production and promote the government’s “Made in Ghana” initiative.

She urged the newly constituted board to adopt strategies that ensure the reliable supply of strategic commodities, competitive pricing, shorter delivery times, and credible local participation, all in line with the Public Procurement Act (Act 63).

“The GNPA must deliver measurable results that strengthen agribusiness value chains, improve exports, and support industrial growth. Deliver value for money, strengthen operations, and run transparent tenders that reflect the national interest,” she said.

Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare further encouraged the board to incorporate digital tools and data-driven systems to enhance procurement efficiency, performance monitoring, and local content participation, key pillars of the government’s 24-hour economy vision.

New GNPA board members

The nine-member GNPA board is chaired by Rev. Ernest Kwadwo Agyei, with members Ivy Emefa Adiko, Carey Yaw Owusu-Anti, Edinam Kojo Asamoah, Nana Opoku Fosu Gyeabour III, Stephen Kweku Bonnah, Henry Yaw Acheampong, Joseph Konadu, and Prof. Frederick Dayour.

GITC board inaugurated

The minister also inaugurated a five-member board for the Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC), chaired by Felix Tawiah Yaw Akyea, with George Kobina Fynn, Barima Agyekum Hinneh, Kim Hussein Ibn Alhassan, and Elizabeth Essie Boadu-Mantey as members.

Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare charged the GITC board to uphold fairness and integrity in trade regulation and negotiations, adding that their work would be essential in strengthening Ghana’s trade competitiveness, building resilient value chains, and attracting both local and foreign investment.

“You are to ensure that the GITC becomes a beacon of excellence in trade regulation, unlocking opportunities for growth, employment, and sustainable development,” she said.

Commitment and appreciation

Speaking on behalf of both boards, the GNPA Board Chairman, Rev. Ernest Kwadwo Agyei, expressed appreciation to the minister and the appointing authorities for the confidence reposed in them.

He described the appointment as “a call to lead with integrity and accountability,” emphasizing that procurement was central to public service delivery and national development.

The GITC Board Chairman, Mr. Felix Tawiah Yaw Akyea, also assured the minister of the board’s readiness to confront emerging challenges in global trade while positioning Ghana to benefit from international market opportunities.
