The Greater Accra Regional Office of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has rolled out a major sensitisation campaign at the Kaneshie Lorry Station in Accra, aimed at promoting technical and vocational education as a viable pathway for Ghanaian youth.
The public engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the opportunities within TVET and its importance in driving national development.
Deputy Regional Director of TVET, Phillip Aheto, told Adom News that the campaign was deliberately timed to coincide with the school placement period, when many parents are making critical decisions about their children’s educational futures.
“TVET is a vital part of Ghana’s development agenda. We want parents and students to know that skills training is not a second option but an equally rewarding pathway that opens doors to entrepreneurship and employment,” Mr. Aheto said.
Market women, commuters, and parents present at the lorry station praised the initiative, noting that TVET has been undervalued for too long, a situation that has contributed to rising youth unemployment. They urged government to intensify support for skills training to help young people secure sustainable livelihoods.
Corporate Communications Manager of the Greater Accra TVET Service, Jeff Adjei, stressed that the campaign will not be a one-off event.
“This is part of a long-term plan. We will continue to engage communities to correct misconceptions about TVET. It is not for people with lower academic ability, it is for those who want to create, innovate, and lead in job creation,” he explained.
He further highlighted that globally, skilled professionals trained through TVET are among the key drivers of economic growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The sensitisation drive, according to officials, is part of a broader national push to rebrand and reposition TVET as a cornerstone of Ghana’s education system, inspiring a new generation of skilled workers to power the nation’s development.
