Police have arrested twelve individuals in connection with the possession and transportation of nearly 600 cartons of BB cartridges at Nsakye, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The arrest, made through an intelligence-led operation on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, exposed a well-coordinated network allegedly involved in moving ammunition under the guise of agricultural goods.
According to a police statement, the suspects include Emmanuel Tsornyake, driver of a DAF articulated truck with registration number EN 792-19, and his associates Ofori Jumbo, Paul Darko, Charles Laryea, Theophilus Laryea, and George Teye. The group was reportedly caught loading boxes of cartridges into a concealed compartment inside the truck’s trailer.
Three more men, Noah Tretsu, Eric Danquah, and Billy Gamati, were arrested shortly after, following fresh intelligence that linked them to the same shipment.
Police sources revealed that out of the 598 cartons, 317 contained live BB cartridges, while 281 were empty shells, all carefully hidden to avoid detection. The operation, officers say, was triggered after an informant hinted that the vehicle was being used to transport arms disguised as farm produce.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects, deepening the scope of the case. Among them was Ebenezer Okyere, who allegedly confessed that the consignment belonged to Samuel Kwadjo Baffoe. Baffoe, later apprehended at Amasaman, reportedly pointed to Gloria Bartels as his supplier.
Police say Baffoe also admitted to supplying ammunition to two Nigerian nationals, identified only as Tony and Chika, who are believed to have intended exporting the cartridges to Nigeria.
All twelve suspects remain in police custody at the Eastern Regional Command, assisting with ongoing investigations. They are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
In a brief statement, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-driven policing and vowed to intensify nationwide surveillance to curb the illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition.
“This arrest is a clear signal that law enforcement will continue to dismantle networks that threaten public safety,” the statement read.
Residents of Nsakye say the bust has brought both shock and relief to the community, which has recently witnessed rising concerns over the movement of suspicious goods along its quiet highways.
