Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) for winning the 2025 FISU World University Football Cup in China.
UDS defeated Brazil’s Paulista University 2-1 in a dramatic final on Sunday to become the first Ghanaian and African university to lift the prestigious trophy. Paulista struck within 30 seconds, but UDS captain Mohammed Sulemana equalised in stoppage time before sealing victory.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Prof. Opoku-Agyemang hailed the team’s “determination, teamwork, and resilience,” describing the victory as a proud moment for both “Know that you have written your names in history and inspired young people across Ghana and beyond. Congratulations!” she wrote.
The win has sparked nationwide celebrations, with many praising UDS for elevating Ghanaian football to the global stage.
