The stage is set for the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) as students prepare to elect new leaders on Friday, September 19, 2025, at polling stations across campus.

The elections follow the completion of the vetting process by the UEW Vetting Committee, which assessed all aspirants based on academic competence, leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, integrity, and overall suitability for office. The Committee described the exercise as fair, transparent, and objective.

The Presidential Race

One of the most closely watched contests will be for the presidency of the student body. After vetting, Kuri KaayiBashiru, Amezah Ohene Emmanuel, Emmanuel Mensah and Raynolf Jerry Hoffmann were cleared to contest.

Initially, Stephen Zoure was disqualified during the vetting stage, but in a dramatic turn of events, he has since been reinstated and will also appear on the ballot. His comeback has generated excitement and intrigue among the student electorate, making the presidential race one of the most competitive in recent years.

Other Key Contests

The election will also see contests for several other positions:

Secretary: Josephine Appiah and Lisbon Sarfo Quayson
Financial Secretary: Kwame Ayew Akaho-Tay, Bang Calliopa and Agbavor Selorm
Treasurer: Monica Owusua Acheampong Otuo and Peace Akloyo
Organizer: Philip Tawiah Fynn and Christopher Yaw Abisa
Gender Commissioner: Ndebugri Yahaya Nihad

High Expectations on Campus

With campaigns in full swing, anticipation is high as students look forward to a spirited contest that will determine the next generation of leaders for the UEW student body. The elections are expected to be keenly contested, especially in the presidential category, where five aspirants will now battle for the top spot.

Officials have urged students to turn out in their numbers and participate peacefully in the exercise, which is regarded as an important step in strengthening student democracy at the university.
