Interior Minister Hon. Mubarak Muntaka has lauded the Upper West Region as one of the most peaceful in Ghana, highlighting the role of interfaith dialogue and community cooperation in maintaining harmony.
Speaking in a meeting, Hon. Muntaka commended a dialogue group set up in the region to address disputes before they escalate. He emphasized that his primary role is to ensure public safety and foster peaceful coexistence among all residents, regardless of religion.
“I won’t prefer separate groups for Christians and Muslims to have this meeting, but the people of Upper West have made it much easier by bringing both communities together,” he said. “No wonder you are one of the most peaceful regions in Ghana.”
The Minister noted that religion, alongside chieftaincy issues, is often a source of division and conflict in many countries. He stressed that having a platform where community members can meet and resolve issues through dialogue is key to preventing unnecessary disputes.
Hon. Muntaka encouraged the Peace Council to replicate this initiative in other regions, believing it could significantly reduce disagreements and contribute to a more peaceful Ghana.
He also offered support for any activities by the dialogue group that might require resources beyond their reach, urging them to consult his office for assistance.
