A man captured in a widely circulated video allegedly assaulting a woman has been remanded in police custody, as investigators pursue additional claims of sextortion linked to the case.
The suspect, Christford Affadu Danful, popularly known as Ekow Black, was arrested on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team after footage showing him physically attacking a woman surfaced online.
According to police, initial investigations indicate that the two had previously lived together and that unresolved personal disputes escalated into physical violence.
Danful was arraigned before the Adabraka District Court on Friday, January 16, 2026. The court, presided over by Her Worship Nana Abena Asoh Owusu Omenyo, ordered that he be held in police custody and reappear on January 21, 2026, to enable investigators to conclude their work.
Beyond the assault allegation, law enforcement agencies are also examining claims that the suspect threatened to release intimate images of the woman, an act police say is consistent with sextortion.
Police sources say both matters are being treated with equal seriousness and are the subject of ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to addressing both physical abuse and cyber-related crimes, assuring the public that “all forms of violence and digital exploitation will be dealt with decisively under the law.”
Danful remains in custody as investigations continue.
