The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will, within the next two weeks, release the detailed Chief Examiners’ Report to help teachers and stakeholders better understand the widespread weaknesses observed in the 2025 WASSCE.

According to John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the council has so far completed only a general summary outlining the strengths and shortcomings demonstrated by candidates during the examination. This summary, he explained, is not the full report traditionally provided.

“We currently have what we call a general résumé, just an overview of the major issues observed across subjects,” Kapi said. “As we speak, I have the summaries for Core Mathematics and Social Studies, which are of critical importance considering the performance trends we have seen.”

He emphasized that the upcoming full Chief Examiners’ Report will offer a deeper and more technical breakdown of students’ errors, misconceptions, and areas of difficulty. This, he noted, is essential for teachers as the country confronts concerns about exam malpractice and declining academic standards.

“We expect to release the detailed report in a week or two. It will enable teachers to identify what went wrong and reinforce weak areas in their instructional methods,” he added.

The announcement comes amid national debate over the integrity of the WASSCE and the growing influence of cheating syndicates, leaked answers, and unauthorized materials entering examination halls. Education analysts believe the Chief Examiners’ Report will provide critical insight into the extent to which these practices may have affected student performance.

WAEC says the detailed report will serve as an important corrective tool for schools as they prepare the next cohort of candidates
