What should have been a normal school day turned into a scene of frustration and worry for pupils of Badu Methodist ‘B’ Basic School in the Tain District of the Bono Region, as floodwaters from River Kusi rendered the main route to their classrooms impassable.

The swollen river, which burst its banks after continuous rainfall, has once again cut off children from nearby communities, leaving them stranded at the edge of the raging water. According to residents, this has become an unfortunate annual ordeal.

“This is not new to us. Every rainy season, our children get trapped because there’s no bridge. Some even risk their lives trying to cross. We are pleading for urgent help,” lamented one parent who spoke to reporters.

Community leaders say the situation is taking a toll on school attendance and performance, as pupils often miss classes for days whenever the river floods.

They are appealing to the Tain District Assembly, traditional authorities, and concerned organizations to come to their aid by constructing a footbridge across the River Kusi.

Residents believe such an intervention will guarantee the safety of schoolchildren and secure the community’s dream of uninterrupted education despite the challenges of the rainy season.
