Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is responsible for most of the major development projects in Kumasi and the wider Ashanti Region.

Speaking on Asempa FM, he argued that claims suggesting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has significantly transformed the region are misleading.

“I have to clarify this for people who have been deceived. The NDC has not brought much development to the Ashanti Region, especially Kumasi,” he stated.

According to him, the only major project the NDC can point to in Kumasi is Phase One of the Kejetia Market development project.

“The only major achievement of the NDC in Kumasi is the Kejetia Market Phase One project. But even with that, the NPP handled the interior works when we came to power because governance is a continuous process,” he said.

Mr. Owusu Amankwah further maintained that most of the major road infrastructure projects in Kumasi were undertaken by the NPP.

“The NPP constructed almost all the major road projects in Kumasi. In essence, it was the NPP that gave the Ashanti Region its modern face,” he claimed.

He also addressed discussions surrounding the Krofrom Market project, insisting that it was initiated under the NPP government.

“Krofrom Market plan was started by the NPP in 2007. When the NDC later came into power, they never started the project,” he stated.

He explained that while some developments in the area were privately funded, the market stores behind the facility were constructed under the NPP administration.

“The projects in front are private investments, but all the stores behind were done by the NPP,” he added.

Mr. Owusu Amankwah accused the NDC of exaggerating its contribution to development in the region.

“The NDC likes to brag, but they do very little. They should stop claiming they have done a lot for the Ashanti Region because that is not true,” he asserted.

He concluded by stating that the NPP also completed several abandoned projects inherited from previous administrations.

“The NPP completed many of the incomplete projects left behind in the Ashanti Region, and that should be acknowledged,” he said.
