For many residents of Wassa Amenfi Central in Ghana’s Western Region, daily life has become a constant struggle—not because they lack the will to succeed, but because the basic infrastructure needed to support their lives remains inadequate.
Standing together before television cameras, a group of young residents spoke with emotion and determination as they shared the challenges confronting their communities. Their message was simple yet heartfelt: they are not asking for special treatment—they are asking for development.
Speaking to UTV News, the residents expressed deep concern over the deplorable condition of roads across the district, describing them as a major setback to economic growth and social development.
According to them, poor roads have made transportation difficult, especially during the rainy season. Farmers struggle to transport their cocoa, food crops, and other produce to markets, traders spend more on transportation, students face difficulties getting to school, and sick residents often endure long, uncomfortable journeys to seek medical care.
“Development is all we want,” one of the youth leaders passionately declared during the interview. “Amenfi Central is our home. If we don’t speak for our district, who will?”
Beyond the deteriorating road network, the residents lamented the shortage of essential social amenities. They pointed to limited healthcare services, inadequate access to clean drinking water, and other public facilities that continue to affect thousands of people living in the district.
The group believes that while Wassa Amenfi Central contributes significantly to the country’s economy through agriculture and natural resources, it has not received the level of infrastructure investment needed to improve the lives of its people.
For the youth, the issue goes beyond roads. It is about creating opportunities that will encourage young people to stay and build their future within the district instead of leaving in search of better living conditions elsewhere.
Residents are therefore appealing to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Western Regional Coordinating Council, the District Assembly, and all relevant stakeholders to prioritize development projects in the area.
They believe that rehabilitating roads, improving healthcare, expanding access to potable water, and investing in education and other social services will unlock the district’s full potential and improve the livelihoods of thousands of families.
Their appeal has since attracted attention on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing solidarity and urging authorities to respond to the concerns raised.
For the people of Wassa Amenfi Central, this is more than a complaint—it is a heartfelt plea for a better future.
As one resident summed it up:
“We have only one mission—development. Wassa Amenfi Central is all we have, and we want to see it prosper.”
Whether that call will translate into action now rests with the authorities responsible for shaping the future of the district.
