Tension is reportedly brewing at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) following allegations that a student was assaulted over rumours of an alleged relationship with a female staff member.

The student, John Osei Kuffour, speaking on Angel FM Kumasi, denied claims that he was romantically involved with the woman at the centre of the controversy.

“I took the woman as my mother, and she also treated me like a son. She once helped me with an issue involving my academic portal, and that was how we met,” he explained.

According to him, their relationship remained cordial and respectful after that encounter.

“After that, I used to greet her whenever we met, and later we exchanged contacts mainly for pleasantries,” he said.

Mr. Kuffour strongly denied allegations of any romantic involvement with the woman.

“There is no truth in claims that I am dating her. Even my biological mother knows this woman,” he stated.

He further disclosed that he had previously been warned that the woman’s husband was uncomfortable with their communication.

“I was told some time ago that the man did not like the conversations between us, so I stopped communicating with her after informing her, and she understood,” he explained.

Narrating the alleged assault, the student claimed the incident occurred on Wednesday morning while he was performing household chores.

“I had washed in the morning and was removing my clothes from the drying line when they came to assault me. It was the accountant together with another man,” he alleged.

Mr. Kuffour also pointed to the age difference between himself and the woman as further evidence against the rumours.

“I do not even know where she lives. The woman is about 45 or 46 years old while I am 23,” he said.

According to him, the matter has been reported to the police, although he claimed the accused later filed a complaint against him as well.

“I have reported the case to the police, but after assaulting me, he also reported me to the police for my arrest,” he alleged.

He added that he is yet to formally report the matter to school authorities.

“I have not heard from the school yet, and I am still preparing to officially report the issue to them. I am also waiting to hear from my parents on the matter,” he said.
