A new wave of youth-led entrepreneurship is taking root in the Effutu Municipality following the successful rollout of the Business in a Box (BizBox) initiative, a collaborative programme by the Ghana Enterprises Agency and the Mastercard Foundation.

Under the Agriculture and Agribusiness to Entrepreneurship (AA2) component, the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) in Effutu has trained 42 young people in fruit processing, equipping them with practical skills to enter Ghana’s growing agribusiness sector. The initiative aims to tackle youth unemployment while strengthening local value chains in agriculture.

The programme reached a major milestone on Thursday, April 16, 2026, when start-up kits were officially presented to the beneficiaries at a ceremony led by the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Hon. Atta Mensah.

Each participant received a comprehensive set of tools designed to help them immediately launch their businesses. The kits included juicers, weighing scales, bottles, hand gloves, aprons, and headgear, critical resources for safe and efficient fruit processing operations.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Atta Mensah underscored the broader significance of the initiative beyond individual business creation.
“Supporting entrepreneurship is about more than starting a business; it’s about creating opportunities for others. When one person is empowered, it can lead to jobs, growth and a stronger community,” he stated.

The event brought together local officials, facilitators, and community stakeholders, all united in a shared vision of economic empowerment and sustainable development. Beneficiaries expressed optimism about the future, noting that the training and equipment have positioned them to generate income, reduce dependency, and potentially employ others within their communities.

The BizBox initiative forms part of a wider national effort to nurture entrepreneurship among Ghana’s youth by bridging the gap between skills training and access to capital tools. By focusing on agribusiness, particularly fruit processing, the programme taps into a sector with high growth potential, export opportunities, and increasing domestic demand.

For many of the young entrepreneurs, the moment marked the beginning of a transformative journey. With tools in hand and skills acquired, they are now poised to turn knowledge into viable enterprises, businesses that could stimulate local economies and inspire a new generation of self-reliant innovators.

As Ghana continues to prioritize youth employment and private sector development, initiatives like BizBox highlight the power of strategic partnerships in delivering tangible impact at the community level.
